For Nana Yaa

“My Uber ride is here. Let’s catch up soon over drinks.” As you got into your ride, I eagerly looked forward to that meeting. We had a lot to catch up on since my return.

Alas, our plans for drinks and a heartfelt conversation were never realized.

We missed out on discussing your experience at Drexel, the interesting destinations to fuel our wanderlust, and the latest food joints.

I must express my gratitude for introducing myself to Telande years ago.

It has taken me this long to express the depths of my sorrow.

Kai, you were the embodiment of vibrant energy at every gathering. Whenever I witness someone gracefully dancing, my thoughts immediately drift to you.

Your ability to let go of worries and embrace life’s joys was truly admirable.

I dreaded the phone call that would inform me that you were finally in the Lord’s bosom.

I hoped against all odds it was a lie.

Because….

How could this be? Nana Yaa and ‘dead’ in the same sentence at this age?

Yet today, I find solace in the radiance of your memory.

You lived a life unrestrained by boundaries, loved unconditionally with all your heart.

Kainene, you lived life ankasa.

Nana Yaa, you shall forever be etched in our hearts as a cherished presence.
